DONNINGTON PARK NATIONAL RACE REVIEW – 2023 ROUND 7

One of my standout moments this season, which will be etched in my memory forever, was clinching my first-ever win at Donnington. The thrill, the emotion, and the overwhelming sense of achievement when you see that checkered flag waving just for you is phenomenal. And then to follow it up immediately with a second win? It felt like a dream. Moments like these remind me why I choose to race. This season, I achieved a personal milestone by finishing fifth, my highest ever in the championship, which highlights my growth as a racer. Congratulations to Steve Foden, who clinched the championship this year, a testament to his skill and determination. With Adam Sparrow following close in 2nd. My teammate, the fantastic Ted Bradbury, completing the podium in 3rd in his debut season, reminds us all how talented the young man is and what a bright future he has ahead of him. Lastly, a special shoutout to my Aussie teammate Tim Dore, who not only won the Masters Championship but also the coveted ‘AB Ashes’ (a little inside joke for those in the know!). What makes the BRSCC MAZDA MX-5 CHAMPIONSHIP stand out isn’t just the spirit of competition but the companionship shared amongst the participants. Racing with AB Motorsport for the past few years has been an enriching experience, with the team’s relentless support being a critical part of my journey. They say you can’t choose your family, but your team becomes just that in the world of racing. Their faith in me, my sponsors’ support, and my family’s endless love made every race a gratifying experience. This year, the championship has once again showcased why it’s one of the most exciting championships to participate in or spectate. Every race was a mix of precision, speed, and strategy. Everyone had a moment under the sun, from seasoned racers to first-year rookies, proving that racing is not just about the machine but the person behind the wheel. As the season ends, I reflect upon the evolution and endless nature of Mazda racing. Its persistent appeal and escalating competitive spirit make it a league apart. Being a part of this championship is an honour, a privilege, and a dream come true. As I gear up for the next season, I carry forward the lessons learnt, the memories forged, and the aspirations from this year. Here’s a nod of appreciation to every fan, supporter, and fellow racer. The track is our battlefield, but away from it, we’re a community bound by our love for each other and the sport we enjoy. Thank you, 2023. The journey has been surreal, the experiences inspiring, and the victories sweet. Here’s to more races, achievements and, most importantly, fun in the future! Luke Pullen.
